We are currently seeking a dynamic and creative individual to assume the rewarding position of Building Inspector II with the Planning and Development Department.

Under the general direction of the Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of the National Building Code, the City of Yellowknife Building By-law, and any related standards and regulations for the design, construction, and occupancy of all new construction and, alterations, reconstruction, remodel, relocation, repairs demolition and change of occupancy for all existing buildings and structures. This includes being responsible for the efficient delivery of building inspections from the initial inquiry and permit application through plan examination, inspections to monitor compliance, and record-keeping. Our current need in the Division is for an individual with a strong background in the plumbing/mechanical field.

Qualifications for the position include a three-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Architectural Technology and 3 years of related experience in the construction industry. We are searching for an individual with a strong plumbing/mechanical background, so Equivalencies will be considered.

The work requires considerable knowledge of building construction materials and methods, stages of construction, plumbing, heating and ventilation codes, and regulations and techniques regarding energy-efficient building practices. Also required would be the ability to handle a complex and varied workload, the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically complex technical information, strong computer skills including using a variety of related software, and a valid Class 5 drivers' license. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain National, Provincial, or Territorial Building Official designations. Applicants must also demonstrate knowledge of the 2015 National Building Code by passing a multiple-choice examination with a minimum mark of 75%.

The salary range is $81,053.40 - $97,744.93 with an additional $5,400 annually for Housing and Vacation Travel Allowances and a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
