Under the general direction of the Manager, Information Technology, the incumbent provides project and technical support for the City's information technology infrastructure. Project responsibilities include participating in planning activities, assessing user requirements, writing and maintaining documentation and procedures, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting software, and recommending and implementing policies. The incumbent is expected to assume a leadership role as appropriate and oversee the maintenance, configuration, and support of the City's website. Experience in maintaining and supporting corporate website services is preferable. Technical support responsibilities include serving as a liaison with user departments to ensure that computer resources are properly deployed and utilized to deliver maximum benefits to the users and the City, assisting City staff in the effective utilization of hardware and software tools, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware and software problems, and providing network support assistance. Demonstrated experience following project management principles in the development of hardware and software deployments, upgrades and migration plans is highly desirable. The position requires the incumbent to assume the duties of other employees in the Information Technology Division as dictated by operational requirements. As well, the Systems Analyst assists the Manager of Information Technology as needed and may be required to perform the duties of the Manager in his or her absence.
This position requires a post-secondary degree in a relevant computer systems discipline. The incumbent should have a minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in a municipal government setting as well as a good understanding of networking concepts. This position also requires solid problem-solving ability and creativity, strong team player abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a positive and service-oriented attitude, polished presentation skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Current industry certifications in technologies relevant to the City's infrastructure are desirable.
The City of Yellowknife offers a competitive salary of $108,209 - $135,264 as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a monthly housing allowance, a defined benefits pension plan and relocation assistance.
