We are currently seeking an individual to assume the demanding and fulfilling position of Pumphouse & Liftstation Maintainer IIB with the Water & Sewer Division of the Public Works and Engineering Department.

 

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, Water & Sewer, and the Pumphouse & Liftstation Supervisor, the incumbent is required to perform maintenance and a preventative maintenance program for all pumphouses, liftstations, City Garage and other City infrastructure as necessary as well as to act as relief Water Treatment Plant (WTP) operator.  These duties include maintaining proper operation of the City pumphouses and liftstations, maintaining pumps, generators and monitoring equipment related to water distribution and sewage disposal,  maintaining safe and efficient operation of water treatment plant equipment and treatment processes, ensuring reliable production and supply of high quality potable water to all City of Yellowknife residents at all times.   When acting as relief Water Treatment Plant Operator, the position involves shiftwork.

 

The incumbent requires Class III Water Treatment Certification or the willingness to attain this certification within 6 months, a valid Class 5 NWT Driver's License and a minimum Class 5 Stationary Engineer's certificate. The work requires a general working knowledge of the Water Treatment Plant operations and equipment as well as an understanding of the City's water and sewer infrastructure and associated operations. This is usually gained from a minimum of 3 years related Water Treatment plant experience. This position also requires a sound knowledge of computers for system monitoring as well as the utilization of spread sheets to maintain operational records. The incumbent must have strong computer skills related to word processing and spreadsheets.
