We are currently seeking an individual to assume the demanding and rewarding position of Manager, Works Operations.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works & Engineering, the Manager has the authority and responsibility for managing the Works Operations.  This includes developing, recommending and implementing an annual Operating & Maintenance (O&M) budget in excess of $16 million, providing technical expertise and practical knowledge to the department, and ensuring that the operations and maintenance programs are executed by managing a staff of approximately 40 employees.  This is accomplished through coordinating and delegating duties and responsibilities for two Superintendents.

The work requires a comprehensive knowledge of municipal public works operations and construction techniques gained through a combination of education and experience.  The position requires a relevant degree such as Civil Engineering, with eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in the NWT, or a Certified Engineering Technologist diploma and at least five years of relevant experience. A minimum of five years in a management position working in a public works environment or equivalent private sector organization is required.   In addition, the work requires the ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize several projects simultaneously, a thorough understanding of safety practices in a construction environment, and a demonstrated ability to calculate manpower and equipment costs for projects.
