We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our highly skilled and devoted crew in its Public Safety Department.  Emergency Dispatch is a dynamic and highly rewarding occupation that works out of the Yellowknife Fire Hall. We need a professional; detail oriented and highly motivated individual to assume the challenging and rewarding role of Emergency Dispatcher.


Under the general supervision of the Emergency Dispatch Supervisor, the incumbent provides emergency and non-emergency dispatching services for the Fire Division, the Municipal Enforcement Division, and the Public Works Department. This position will require the incumbent to work shifts in a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule. (4 days, followed by 4 nights). The incumbent must have the aptitude to take emergency calls, operate a radio system and solicit appropriate information from callers in a professional and sensitive manner in a fast-paced stressful environment.  To perform the work, it is also necessary that the incumbent has the aptitude to operate multiple software programs including both FDM CAD and SCADA computerized systems. The Emergency Dispatchers will also be required to have, or be able to attain, the below listed specific vocational qualifications:


  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD)
  • Emergency Fire Dispatching (EFD)
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)A
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level "C"
