The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a professional and highly motivated individual to assume the challenging and rewarding role of HR Officer, Safety & Training, in the Administration Department on a two year term basis.


Under the general direction of the Manager, Human Resources, the incumbent provides support in the human resource functions relating to the City's training, employee development and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs.   Responsibilities include conducting a needs analysis of required safety training and administering all aspects of training programs such as planning, organizing, facilitating and evaluating specific in-house programs, processing requests for training, maintaining all training records and developing and recommending policies and guidelines as required.    This position also administers aspects of the OHS program including researching and developing policies, promoting safety and health within the organization including special events around safety, participating on the OHS Committee, and processing incident and accident reports.  In addition, the incumbent is required to assist other staff in some areas such as competency evaluations and safety system audits as required.  Working as part of a team in Human Resources, assisting other staff with related duties may be required.


The HR Officer position requires a comprehensive knowledge of safety legislation and practices, adult education principles and human resources practices which is gained through post-secondary education in the OHS, and/or Human Resources fields. A minimum of two years of practical experience in administering safety and training programs is required. Equivalencies in education and experience may be considered. The incumbent requires effective interpersonal and organizational skills together with strong verbal and written communication skills.  Preference will be given to applicants with a professional designation in a safety field (i.e. CRSP) and practical experience delivering training programs.
