The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a qualified, well read and enthusiastic individual to assume the vibrant position of Public Services Librarian with the Community Services Department.


The incumbent is responsible for the public service aspects of library operations.  This includes reference and readers' advisory work, supervision of clerical staff working with the public, collection development for children and youth, as well as the development and delivery of programs for adults and young people ages nine to eighteen.


The work requires sound knowledge of the principles and practices of public librarianship.  This requires the completion of a Master of Library Science degree from a Library Association accredited university and at least two years of public library experience. Knowledge and/or experience relating to budget preparation/control and policy development and supervision of clerical staff are also required. A strong generalist reading and viewing background as well as a proven knowledge of and enthusiasm for literature for children and youth are also a necessity. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a cross-cultural setting and a demonstrated enthusiasm for and commitment to a northern lifestyle.


The City of Yellowknife offers a competitive salary range of $81,010.83 - $98,465.30 plus a comprehensive benefits package including a monthly housing allowance, a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
