The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a dynamic and creative individual to assume the rewarding position of Planner with the Planning and Development Department.

This is a professional opportunity to take your community planning career to the next level.  Your work will include a breadth of files on the front edge of community planning.  Incorporating traditional uses into the community regulatory framework; alternative housing forms in the north, and city design on the edge of Great Slave Lake will be common points of discussion in your work day.  Our Department has just completed a review of the Community Plan and a number of long range planning projects are expected to stem from the new plan. We are pleased with the planning work the City has accomplished to date in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, but there is still more work to be done.

Under the direction of the Manager of Planning and Lands, the incumbent is responsible for various planning and lands related projects. The incumbent conducts research studies, reports, and analysis required to develop policy and long range plans to guide the future growth and development of the City of Yellowknife, as well as provides research and recommendations related to acquisition and disposal of land in accordance with the Land Administration By-law.  The incumbent also acts as a Development Officer for the City of Yellowknife and is responsible for reviewing and issuing development permits

Qualified candidates will possess a thorough knowledge of land-use planning principles and Municipal and Territorial Legislation as well as experience in the use of related mapping and documentation software. This is normally acquired through graduation with a university degree in urban and regional planning or equivalent and a minimum of three years progressively responsible experience. Eligibility for C.I.P. membership is required. The incumbent requires effective interpersonal and organizational abilities and a capacity to work independently

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $81,010.83 - $98,465.30 and as well as a comprehensive benefits package including a $450.00 monthly housing allowance, a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
